— A Youngstown resident was driving a cement truck northbound on state Route 11 when the engine blew up and caught fire at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. The man was uninjured, but the vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.

— Daniel R. Shafer, 44, West Main Street, Washingstonville, was charged with operating a vehicle without reasonable control after losing control of his motorcycle on state Route 45, crossing the center line, striking another vehicle and overturning at 11:14 a.m. Saturday. Shafer was ejected from the motorcyce, but escaped with possible minor injuries to his arms. The other driver, Cynthia Harda, 63, Richmond, stated that she noticed the motorcycle driving too fast and that Shafer was losing control before colliding with her. She sustained possible minor injuries as well and was transported to East Liverpool Hospital along with her passenger. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.

— James R. Ward, 23, Canton, was charged with assured clear distance, hit-skip with injuries, and OVI after sideswiping a vehicle at 8:28 p.m. July 21 on state Route 172. Upon locating Ward, officers found him to be highly intoxicated, with a BAC of .197. He also admitted to drinking a 12-pack of beer before driving. The driver of the other vehicle, Gerald A. Walker, 49, Hanoverton, suffered no injuries, although his passenger, Kayli M. Stiffler, 34, Hanoverton, claimed injuries to her chest. Ward sustained no injuries. His vehicle sustained functional damage and was towed, and Walker’s vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.

— A Wintersville teen was charged with operating a vehicle without reasonable control after allegedly running off the left side of Desellem Road and striking a log in a private yard at 10:40 p.m. Saturday. She stated that she was not familiar with the area and had been making a right hand turn onto the road when she hit a patch of gravel and went off the roadway. She also admitted that excesssive speed may have been a factor as well. One of her four passengers stated that he had a headache, but all other passengers and the driver sustained no injuries. The vehicle sustained minor injuries and was towed from the scene.

— David C. Withers, 54, state Route 62, Salem, was charged with operating a vehicle without reasonable control, failure to control, OVI, and OVI refusal with priors after driving off the right side of state Route 9 at 4:52 p.m. Saturday, striking a ditch and going airborne, then striking a tree before it hit the ground and overturned on its side. Withers suffered possible serious injuries to his head and right leg and was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital. His motorcycle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.

— Mitchell A. Crawford, 21, Rogers, was charged with operating a vehicle without reasonable control and failure to control after driving off the right side of state Route 7 and striking a traffic sign, ultility pole, and another traffic sign at 12:43 a.m. Crawford stated that he had fallen asleep while driving due to lack of sleep. He sustained no injuries, but his vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

— Taylor R. Williams, 21, Alderlick Road, Wellsville, was charged with lanes of travel after sideswiping the vehicle of Lindsey M. Hall, 21, Alderlick Road, on Alderlick Road at 6:13 p.m. July 15. After being struck, the other vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and struck a ditch. Williams, Hall, and Hall’s passenger all sustained no injuries, and both vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.

— Lyndsey E. Smith, 31, Hammondsville Road, Wellsville, was charged with turn and stop signals after striking the vehicle of Rebecca A. Frischkorn, 38, Old Irondale Road, Wellsville on TR 797 (Hammondsville Road) at 6:50 p.m. July 18. According to the report, Smith had stopped on the left side of the road at a mailbox, and backed out and drove forward just as Frischkorn was driving by, striking the rear of Frischkorn’s vehicle. Neither driver sustained any injuries, but Frischkorn’s vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene and Smith’s vehicle sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

— Nicole S. Noble, 33, Liberty Street, Salem, was charged with rules for overtaking and passing after attempting to pass the vehicle of Karen Holisky on state Route 14 at 2:12 p.m July 19. Neither driver or Holisky’s passenger sustained any injuries. Noble’s vehicle sustained functional damage and was drvien from the scene, and Holisky’s vehicle sustained minor damage and was also driven from the scene.

— Paul A. Bucey, 37, East Canton, was charged with operating a motor vehicle without reasonable control, assured clear distance, and distracted driving after striking the rear side of the vehicle of William B.D. Chuck, 21, Alliance, and traveling off the right side of US Route 62 at 4:34 p.m. July 17. Bucey stated that he was looking at his phone prior to the crash, and did not have enough time to stop. He attempted to swerve out of the way, but instead side-swiped Chuck’s vehicle and ran off the road into an embankment. Neither driver nor their passengers sustained any injuries, and both vehicles sustained minor damage and were driven from the scene.

— Jonathan G. Coffman, 36, Marietta, was charged with unsafe vehicles after a tire on the semi-truck he was driving blew out, striking the vehicle of Sarah A. Benedict, 30, Miller Road, Leetonia on state Route 45 at 5:42 p.m. July 15. Neither driver sustained injuries. Benedict’s vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene, and Coffman’s vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed.
